Soil Available Phosphorus Deficiency Reduces Boll Biomass and Lint Yield by Affecting Sucrose Metabolism in Cotton-Boll Subtending Leaves

چکیده

Soil available phosphorus (AP) deficiency and shortage of phosphate rocks limit cotton production in China. Therefore, pool-culture experiments were conducted 2019 2020 using two cultivars (CCRI-79, low-P tolerant; SCRC-28, sensitive) under three soil AP levels (P0: 3 ± 0.5, P1: 6 P2 (control): 15 0.5 mg kg−1) to ascertain the effect on boll biomass lint yield. P0 P1 decreased P concentration net photosynthetic rate (Pn) subtending leaves, thus, reducing Additionally, wall:boll, lint:boll, lint:seed, increased seed:boll ratio. Upper fruiting branch positions (FB9–12) had higher lint:seed ratio proportion total yield low AP. Moreover, also reduced sucrose transformation (Tr) activities sucrose-metabolizing enzymes, such as ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase-oxygenase (Rubisco), synthase (SPS), (SuSy), while carbohydrate (soluble sugar, sucrose, starch) activity cytosolic fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (cy-FBPase) leaves. The starch contents, cy-FBPase, SPS SCRC-28 more sensitive than CCRI-79. Higher Tr initial Rubisco SuSy leaves improved

Photosynthetic characteristics of the subtending leaf of cotton boll at different fruiting branch nodes and their relationships with lint yield and fiber quality

To investigate photosynthetic characteristics of the subtending leaf at the 2-3rd and 10-11th fruiting branch (FBN, FB2-3, and FB10-11), and their relationship with cotton yield and quality, field experiments were conducted using two cotton cultivars, Kemian 1 and Sumian 15. The results showed that with FBN increasing, chlorophyll (Chl) components, Pn and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) in th...

Effects of Soil Salinity on Sucrose Metabolism in Cotton Leaves

This study investigated sucrose metabolism of the youngest fully expanded main-stem leaf (MSL) and the subtending leaf of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) boll (LSCB) of salt-tolerant (CCRI-79) and salt-sensitive (Simian 3) cultivars and its relationship to boll weight under low, medium and high soil salinity stress in Dafeng, China, in 2013 and 2014. The results showed that with increased soil s...

Combining ability analysis for within-boll yield components in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.).

Cotton is an important cash crop worldwide, accounting for a large percentage of world agricultural exports; however, yield per acre is still poor in many countries, including Pakistan. Diallel mating system was used to identify parents for improving within-boll yield and fiber quality parameters. Combining ability analysis was employed to obtain suitable parents for this purpose. The parental ...

Nitrogen (N) Application Gradually Enhances Boll Development and Decreases Boll Shell Insecticidal Protein Content in N-Deficient Cotton

Expression of insecticidal protein in transgenic Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is lower in cotton reproduction organs, especially during boll development period. The current study investigated the effects of nitrogen fertilization under nitrogen deficit on boll development and Bt toxin content in boll shell, which is the first target of boll worm harm. The protein synthesis and degradation in thi...
